Dr. Geffner performed the robotic surgery for my transplant. This is the link explaining the surgery. He is the first to use the  da Vinci ™ Surgical System to successfully implant a kidney into a living recipient. (i'm not sure what # surgery I was. I think he had done quite a few before I got there)

The incision site is quite a bit smaller than a traditional transplant, from what I understand (although I have no one to compare mine to) and the healing time is much quicker with less complications.

Good Morning to all , I talked to my doctor last night and she said I willl be going home Friday, the heart test will be done on me today to make sure heart is pumping ok before I make the trip to UVA. Can someone tell me some of the things that the UVA will be testing me for ? It will be my visit to see if I qualify for a transplant Lung or not. I do not have any other health issues Thank God . I am in un condition shape and have no time to get prepared now for this trip . I need any advice someone can give me.  Thank you all

I just got a call asking  a lot of questions , was told I will be getting a call from someone else maybe next week after they look over some more papers. But did say I will have to walk 6 minutes , how do I do that when I am so weak ??  what other things will they make me do I  think I am to far gone to go through this and it scares me . I still have faith .

Today is the 10th day of July , I was told I was going home tomorrow , my sister called UVA to see who and wherem I willl be going on the 16th only to be told I do not have any appointment now, I am so sad , she is working on trying to get things moving faster , time for me is running out , I cant breath.  thank you all for being there to listen thast helps. Thank you for wanting to help me , I am very sick at the time and it is kind of tough trying to get my trip planned to go see doctors in UVA it will be my first time seeing someone outside of my home town. I am trying to get it approved with my insurance at the moment and then see if I can get an ambulance to transpolrt me , I need their medical help with my meds .  I have no other health issues going on only the lungs gone from smoking and have been off of those sice last March. How does someone get to stay and be tested in a Hospital to get a new lung ?

Hi Rise, my support group is going well, we average about 6 people at my monthly breakfasts.  It is really an enjoyable time for all.  I have 10 members on my Meetup page and since it's only been around for 4 months that's not too bad.  Yes, thank you for the suggestion I will post here and on Buddies about my next breakfast meetup.  Thanks for your support!

My husband Gazzelle spent the last 2 weeks of his life in 2 hospitals hoping that he would be listed for a liver.  He was listed for 24 hours as #1 in the region and unlisted the next day because he didn't meet "criteria"  either UCSF or milan.  This was bologna as he had no signs of HCC, clean MRI, clean PET, clean US after treatment.  I hope that none of you will have to go through the stuff/game playing we went through the last 18 months.  Gazz and I had made the decision that if he was not going to listed that we would go home.  I took him home on Thursday and he passed peacefully on Monday June 25.
