Janelle called me and asked if she could give my number to her, I told her of course! But I never heard from the girl. I am sure if she talked to you she must have been feeling confident! I actually saw your story on transplantbuddies when i googled something. It was the first thing that came up, and it was just one of those things I believe that was fate to see. It was the day before i went in for all my tests, i was stressed, scared and feeling a million different things. But readying your story just gave me this weird calming feeling and i just knew that everything was going to be ok. I am not quite as good about taking care of my scar, i used cream the first year or so and every time i go in the sun I put sunblock on. But it is looking good. I have to do a liver panel every year, I am just going in for my 2nd one this week! I put your number in my phone! I am free some of those days as well (my schedule changes). My number is 562-822-9945. I am really glad I was able to get in contact with you, it is so neat to hear someone else's similar story. I am just so glad everything has gone so well for both of our families!
So you just hit 3 years? I can't believe it will be 2 years this fathers day for us! Last year for fathers day i gave my dad a bag of onions, he stared at them for a second then i told him "last year i gave you my liver, figured this year I would give you onions". That was the first time i saw him cry after the surgery. But I would love to hear more stories from you, if you are still local in LA area we should meet up for some coffee sometime and trade war wound stories.
Glad to hear everything is going well with you and your dad. Everything is great with us as well. I do my 2 year blood work later this week and my dad just did his yearly scan to make sure the cancer is still gone. We will know all those results soon, but as far as feeling good....we are both in great shape. I have lost 40lbs since the surgery! My dad has energy and has came out of retirement (he is a pool man). He even recently took on more clients and is back to his old self. I talked with Janelle at USC the other day who asked me if I wouldn't mind talking to someone else who is in similar shoes as we were once in. Just seeing your story made me know everything was going to be ok, and i hope that i can give that gift to someone else as well! So thank you again for sharing!
It's awesome to hear how well you're doing. It's such a relief.
I get that growling where my liver is too. My doctor said that it's because my liver isn't exactly in the same place anymore. Since your liver can grow back from the other side of the remaining piece. This is kind of gross, but for a while I could feel my innards moving around into the empty space right after my surgery. They said it's completely normal.
I just put a picture up of my incision. It's not that good (the picture), but mine is just a mid-line incision. Supposedly this is less painful. It's completely healed with a few keloid parts. Mostly it's just RED. I'm really fair skinned so I expect it to be red for a while, but I avoid any sun on it. I've heard avoiding sun on a new scar for a year will keep it from getting dark.
Anyway, you were such a big help! Thank you so much for all your insight!
Sorry it's taken me a month to reply to your comment. I haven't been keeping up with them. I'm 3 months out now. I still am not myself. I went back into the hospital 2 weeks ago for severe abdominal pain, they never found out what was causing it. My abs are killing me though. Did you feel like that at all? I'm super tired all the time and my abs feel like I just did 8000 crunches everyday. I was in really good shape before the surgery. I had a physically demanding job, and I haven't gotten back yet. Also, I feel like if I stretch, my incision will rip. Did you have any issues with that?
