My Transplant Surgeon Dr. Folkert O Belzer

My Transplant Surgeon at University of Wisconsin Hospitals was Dr. Folkert O. Belzer.  He was a really wonderful Transplant Doctor who engineered so much to do with transplantation.  The write-up is on this link

and if you are interested in how transplants evolved, please read.

Dr. Belzer died at the age of 64 from colon cancer.  What a great mind and such a loss.

He was the most gentle man and gave me such hope through some really difficult times.

Thanks Mark!  Dr. Belzer was such a wonderful man and had such great compassion.  I had a very difficult time with my transplant, but he would come in and pat my feet and tell me not to worry that he had it !  I was so saddened by his death and felt that it was such a loss for us all.

Well, Dr. Belzer was truly a remarkable person. According to the article, it was he and his research team that developed the methodology for preserving kidney, pancreas and liver organs for transplant 25 years ago. Before his protocols we're put into practice, transplant surgeries had to take place in close proximity to the donor's location. Rest in peace Dr. Belzer ... thank you for your scientific contribution to the process that saved my life one year ago.
