Happy Birthday Cthelite !!!
Addiction medicine. Taught at medical schools here in the US and directed several substance abuse treatment programs for 30 years. Became too ill with ESRD in 2000 & retired. Got my kidney transplant 10/20/04 from Rob Smitty, an alruistic, non-related, living donor through Matching Donors. My surgery caused great controversy which received wide media coverage. Since then have been researching and writing about the transplant industry. I lecture around the world on the topic, "Ethics in Transplant Medicine". Spend most of my time arranging organ transplants for people having difficulty getting the surgery. Have arranged for several Canadians to be transplanted here in the US.
The transplant team at TGH is great. I have regular contact with, Dr. Ed Cole, there. Just arranged for him to appear in an HBO documentary being produced by a Canadian firm in Toronto.
Being a patient was an eye popper for me. Especially being a dialysis patient for 5+ years here in the US. I am presently writing a book about my experiences on dialysis and those of others I met in similar circumstances. I am a very demanding patient. My mantra to all people seeking transplants is to advocate everyday for yourself. Don't sit passively waiting for the system to take care of you.
We are very lucky people to be able to continue enjoying our lives and families.
Thanks for the good wishes! I wish you well on this, your special day. Are you in TO? I went to U of T.
Happy Birthday, CtheLite!!!
