Hi I want to share with you what had happened to my brother, he did dialysis for 6 years.
Israel National Transplant Center, told us that we should be in waiting list, and the situation was intolerable, so we began to look for a solution abroad. One of our reviews of visiting the hospital, we met with a transplant recipient abroad was very pleased and gave us a contact phone. From a contact man we had our required information and also got phones numbers of patients who underwent transplantation in the same place and were very satisfied. We met with the contact man and decide to do transplantation, so we flew to the country were satisfied patients underwent a transplant
Everything was well organized by professionals they accompanied us all along with a lot of sensitivity and attention to detail and concern.
My brother pass successfully kidney underwent transplantation. We returned to our country happy.
And I would love to share with you or your friends who need a transplant more details.
Happy to help, please contact me!

I agree with you, the things that we go through, be it good or bad, are what makes us who and what we are. I'm also blessed to be where I am an who I am. We all have our separate journeys but at the same time they all have their similarities that make us capable of relating to one another. Everyone's journey seems to intermingle with others on this site in some way or another, enabling us to realize that we aren't in this alone. Everything we go through in life we go through for a reason even if we aren't aware of what that reason is at the time. I know that being able to relate and communicate with others who have been through or are going through what I went through is one of the purposes that I went through what i did on my journey. I now work for the dialysis center that I went to for so long as a patient, I'm a social worker there now. So everything I learned from my personal experiences on dialysis is being put to use helping others who are still dealing with the whole dialysis issue.  I hope that you stay healthy and keep on keeping on.

I can relate to your just wanting to fit in during high school. It's a hard enough job to fit in without having health issues. I had to deal with diabetes which caused hardships in high school. I kept the same dialysis hours you did. LOL... I didn't have those hours to be able to go to school though. I went to dialysis three days a week for four hours each day, from 5am to 9am. I was near death off and on for the first three years of dialysis and can't count the times that doctors told me they didn't know how I was still alive. LOL.... This being the case, I lived in a nursing home for the first five years of dialysis and then got out and started life on my own again. I'm not sure which was worse, the nursing home or the dialysis. LOL... I'd get away from it all and get a vacation from it every time I'd get admitted to the hospital though. LOL... Not exactly the ideal vacation but even the hospital was better than the nursing home and it's food. I'm sure that since your transplant you do feel much better. I know how I felt during the years of dialysis I went through and once I had my transplant I felt reborn, like I was 15 or 20 years younger. I still feel better and stronger every day. I'd go through all I went through again to get to were I am now though. I have a second chance at life, a new beginning, my life is mine once more and it was worth the pain and all the health issues to get to where i'm at now. I have no regrets only a new appreciation for life, death and the selflessness of the donors out there who keep people like us alive.

I guess instead of asking all of the questions I could have just read what you had written on your profile. LOL.... I can underatand the scarring believe me. I had to have many surgeries to keep me on dialysis until i could get a transplant and have way too many scars to show for it. I had several grafts, about six catheters i my chest which would only be used for around 6 to 9 months before the doc would take them out due to risk of infection. I also had three fistulas and a hero graft. It's nice to hear that you only had to go through hemo for a year and a half though any time on hemo is too much time. It must have been horrible to lose your kidneys at such a young age. I was 31 when mine finally failed. Fortunately for me my recovery was a total success and I was out of the hospital a month after my transplant and then out riding my motorcycle , against doctors orders, after being home for two weeks. I recover quicker when I'm up and around and getting back into my daily routine. When I'm told to take it easy and not get out of bed or just sit around until I'm stronger I only end up weaker and have less endurance so I'm up and around doing whatever I can within reason of course. Judging by your profile pic you look like you've recovered well and are doing well too. I know pics don't show what's going on on the inside of a person but they do show how we look which will show how we are feeling on the inside. are you at a higher risk of rejection due to the Wegener's Granulomatosis? Are the chances still there that you could lose the kidney you have now the same way you lost your original kidneys? That's one of the many reasons I love the double transplant I received, I got a pancreas which rids me of diabetes which is what caused the kidney failure therefore no more risk of losing the new kidney through diabetes. I do have the same risks of rejection, However that is a risk that we all as transplant patients have to accept and take as it comes while hoping that it doesn't.

Hi Audrina.

How are u doing? Thank u for accepting my friend request. I also have had Kidney Tx. I got Tx in 2004 but now my body has started rejecting graft. Cause of my kidney failure was FSGS which is a rare kidney disease bcz as far i know most common causes of renal failures are diabetes and hypertension.

Most important thing is to limit the salt and protein intake but both protein and high blood pressure are very dangerous for kidneys, that's what my nephrologist have told me. He also told me that first Tx lasts for maximum 10 years and after that we need another Tx and thats what has been written in medical books but in practical life i have seen many patients who are still fine even after 10 years of Tx.

Audrina, what was the cause of your kidney failure? Mine was due to having diabetes for 30 years. I was on hemo as well but I was on it for almost ten years. Lucky me huh? LOL.... I tried PD after the veins in my upper body were pretty well used up from hemo but I had too much scar tissue built up around the catheter and it developed an abscess before I was ever even able to start using it. My doctors had to take the catheter out and told me it would only happen again. Fortunately for me after running out of access areas I got my call for a transplant a week later. Did you do home hemo or did you go to a dialysis center?
