Hi Matt

First off, a dialysis catheter caused the infection on my heart valve,, and when i was still on dialysis and ready to transplant, that valve was leaking and had to be changed out again..

The biggest challenge for me as far as transplant is the recovery..its 7 years later, i feel like im still recovering in a way..not alot of energy..sleepless nights, alot of meds,, sadly, sometimes i think it was easier being on dialysis,, i definately hated going 3 times a week for 3-4 hours, but i felt good after..they say im probably looking at yet another transplant in my lifetime,, just the thought of it makes me cringe, and will i do it again?..yes but with hesitation..i just pray they are wrong, just like they said they thought this one was gonna fail after 3-4 yrs,,hello..its been 7 years and all my levels are good..lol..yet im still stuck with this ugly fistula..haha, grrr...but i wish you so much luck, i do hope you get one, and anyone that is willing in your family, have them tested...i have my sisters kidney, and she was out of the hospital 3 days later and has not had one problem whatsoever donating and if i need another one, my oldest daughter is donating to me..:) chin up!! There is a very successful group in Sudbury; that area has by far the highest donor registration rate in the province.  Would you like me to get you the contact info?  Also, are you on Facebook; many of us across the province use it daily to share info.

I have been busy myself this evening, getting applications together for our group to attend two more festivals.  That makes four that I have worked on today.  I am on LTD because people focus on what I can't do instead of what I can so I will let them pay me to do charitable work and hopefully save someone's life, albeit indirectly.  If things keep going like this, I may not have time to work full-time! :)

The reason that I asked is that I am active with a group that promotes organ and tissue donation in the Waterloo and Wellington regions.  We hope to catch up to the Sudbury area, where the local group has had tremendous success in raising the donor registration rate.  If you have the opportunity to tell your story to a group, I would encourage you to take it.  People genuinely appreciate hearing our stories and having someone to answer questions about the donation and transplant processes.  This is one way I am paying my gift of life forward.
