I have always had high liver enzymes, first noticed during my first pregnancy at 18. Over the years they continued to be high but no one ever thought any thing of it. A year and a half ago I started gaining weight across my belly and it was hard and firm, meanwhile I had lost all appetite and was quickly losing weight every where else. Still took my doc's a while to do anything about it. I took a friend to the doc (we see the same one) and when the doc saw me she went into panic mode. I was severely jaundiced and too thin. She immediately sent me to a GI doc. They quickly performed an EGD, US and liver biopsy and a ton of blood work. My liver was 4x's the normal size and my spleen was also enlarged. An appointment with University of Michigan Transplant Center was quickly set up. At that appointment my MELD score was 15. That was in Jan 2011. I am still just shy of being put on the transplant list. I continue to see the transplant team every three months. My jaundice has since mostly gone away and my liver recently seems to be getting smaller. This next biopsy in June will determine if that is a good or bad thing. They are still not sure what caused my liver problems, and I have no living family to question about genetic/family history. I was quite a drinker in my younger days, but in recent years have only been a social drinker. Either way, it did not help, but I just didn't know. I no longer drink at all and have gained back some weight. I have good days and bad ones as well. I also have fibromyalgia and the two seem to affect each other making each day unpredictable. But I love life, and my husband, my kids, my grandchildren and friends so much that I am willing to make the best of the life I have been given. They are all my support, my rock, my haven on dark, stormy days when it all gets to be to much.
I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...
I like to share info, ask questions, seek advice and share others experiences. Plus I just like making new friends and being encouraging to others.
