Mexican Transplants.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 1:29pm 0 Comments

Thanks for your comment Lilian. I hope you are doing well. Dr. Carmona was one of the surgeons I visited with at ABC Hospital in Mexico City last February. My visit with him was very informative. He is a great surgeon.

Since that visit I have been honored to work with 6 Mexican citizens living in the US. Three of those people are getting kidney transplants within the next 6 weeks being given the gift of life by 3 altruistic, non-related, living donors. I was in Mexico last…

Transplants for citizens of Mexico!

Posted on March 19, 2010 at 6:50pm 3 Comments

I recently returned from meetings in Mexico with government health officials and transplant surgeons in Mexico City. Mexican citizens are eligible for human organ transplants immediately. There is no waiting time! Mexican law bars cadavder organs being transplanted into foreigners in order to prevent exploitation. There is a surplus of organs for citizens no matter where they reside, inside or outside Mexico. I toured the surgical facilities and met with the surgeons at ABC Hospital in Mexico… Continue

We are very fortunate, indeed, to be donor recipients. I relish my abundance each and every day. I received cadaveric organs for both transplants; 1994 & 2009. I am simply awestruck at the altruistic, loving nature common in all donors both living and deceased. Without these incredible souls, the marvels of medical science would be lacking a crucial link.

I have known Dr. Ed Cole for years but have not been directly under his care. He is a transplant director held in high esteem by both colleagues and patients. My doctor, Dr. J. Kim, is a brilliant, congenial man who strongly advocates patient participation. This suits me perfectly since I come from the school of self care dialysis. At self care, I mastered self cannulation; a major source of anxiety for most patients. But for the grace of my donor, those days are, mercifully, a fading memory. But, I continue to incorporate the skills I learned with my brand new, wonderful life. I am not the 'average' patient and have been known to be demanding. I make it my business to know what is going on and my questions, at times, might seem never ending. I can, definitely, be a handful but my team appreciates this attribute; we are cohesive and efficient.

I wish you continued good health and success in all your endeavors. May you and yours have a great holiday season!

We are twenty minutes outside of T.O., in the burbs of Etobicoke. Our son attends Ryerson (engineering - 2nd year). My transplant clinic is @ Toronto General so I am very familiar with the downtown core. Must say, I LOVE my team! Could not ask for better people... This is my second kidney transplant and  it is going fantastic.  So blessed and so appreciative. May I ask, Dr. Bob, what type of medicine do you practice? It must be quite the experience being on the patient end of the equation. What a role reversal. Take care and remain a source of light.
