Hi,
I haven't posted in a yr..had a good yr., but was hit hard w/either a virus or my disease has worsened since Halloween. Now I have O2 in the house & my Dr. wants me to meet the Transplant Team at UPMC. I'm actually feeling a lot better than I was, but they still want me to meet the team to get the process started. I can't believe it..I thought I was yrs off from starting this process! I'm hoping I stay the way I am now so I can put off the transplant as long as…
Carole said… Hi Diana,
I understand your comments about finding someone with the same diagnosis. You are the first that I have met. The docs are now calling it "Idiopathic BO" since they can not find any cause for it.
I am 55 and was in very good health before all of this started last year. I was first treated with inhalers for presumed asthma, but once they determined it was BO, the docs stopped all my drugs. It had progressed enough that they said TP was the only option. They knew how bad I was, but gently gave me some time to accept that. As I needed more and more oxygen, and got weaker and weaker, I called them and asked to start the evaluation. They readily agreed. Everything came at me so fast, from the onset of the illness, the diagnosis and then the TP, that I felt like a train was bearing down on me. My head still spins sometimes when I think about it all. But I have to say that the TP went very well, and I feel so much better than before TP. I could not have survived without the TP, and I have no doubts that I made the correct choice.
I hope that you have more time before the TP, and that we continue to talk. I have found that my family and friends are very supportive in many ways, but having someone to talk to who has the same disease will be a comfort to me. And I hope to you, too!
