I wrote to my donor family when I first had my transplant which was March 1999. I knew that my donor was a 17 year old boy who was killed on his way to work on a motorcycle. My aunt later told me…Continue

Stefanie said… I'm on a pump right now so management isn't a huge issue but it would be nice to not have blood sugar numbers looming low or high. Its become harder to manage that along with the baby and a full time job (I'm the director of a special needs program at a elementary school). I do pretty well until I get home in the evening and then any desire to do much is gone. I am a bit worried about the rejection drugs and the imuno suppressent problems that go along with the whole thing. I'm worried about all the no no's I've read and how that will factor in for me. I am however looking forward to increased energy!!!!! Your little boy is darling as well. Love his chubby cheeks! P.S. I was just looking at his pictures and I didn't know they had Halloween in England! You learn something every day!

I'd already gone further than they thought so I think he wanted me to go further to see how far they could get me. I think it was a blessing that he was off when another OB decided to take her early. I still have enough kidney function left to not need dialysis as a result :) She was 4 lbs. and did stay 2 weeks in the NICU but was strong the whole stay. She just needed to get eating down. She is opinionated and on schedule for everything! She wears me out and she's only 10 mo. old! I"m on the K/P list although they keep trying to get me to just do a kidney only. My nephro and endo want the K/P for me.
Stefanie said… Hi Claire,
Glad to hear you are doing well with your kidney and pancreas! I had my baby about 10 mo. ago. I haven't had a transplant as of yet and the pregnancy increased the need for one most definitely. I had about 40% function then and now have about 20% I think. I had my tubes tied after I had her and now I wish I hadn't reading some stories of people having babies afterwards. I am 39 though so I guess its ok. Continued good health to you!
