Share - which illness lead up to you needing a transplant?: I am not the recipient. My boyfriend of 5 years had type 1 diabetes which led to kidney failure. We have been through every type of dialysis there is, ending with me administering it at home with home hemo through NxStage. "The Call" came about a month ago. He had the SKP (simultaneous kidney/transplant) on my birthday :) It has not been the smoothest road since then (or over the last couple of years!) and I would love to be able to talk with someone, anyone about all kinds of different things.

Share how your transplant experience changed your life?: It's all so new. And it has been hard. He and I are looking forward to a different (normal) lifestyle very much and are so very grateful. We are just ready for that to start. Considering I am signing up for Transplant Friends from the couch in his hospital room....just wondering when it is going to get better? I know it will. I will give a little head's up on this blog post. I will proabably come across as negative and maybe a little angry. Anger always seems to be my go-to emotion. I think it keeps me from fully coming apart at the seams. And maybe I am a little angry. But I think I am mostly just sad. That deep sadness that takes over every corner of your being. And worried. Trying to put the last 2 years into words is hard for me. I actually think that one of my strongest "coping tactics" is being able to completely block out some thoughts. That is usually not very hard for me to do, since it seems that from the moment I wake up to the minute I hit my pillow, I am constantly busy. But sitting here in a dark hospital room with nothing but the sound of the air conditioner and his CPAP machine to listen too... the mind…

Hello all. Very sorry to start the last blog post, get right up to the point where things may have started getting good and *poof* - gone like the wind. Today is July - Friday the 13th. I know this seriously creeps some people out, but not me. 13 has always been my lucky number. I had to go back and see what day I had started this. What "this" will turn out to be, I am not sure. I started out with peritoneal dialysis at home and ended up with doing hemo dialysis before it was all over. After being on dialysis for 13 months, my wife gave me a kidney.
