Comment by Rita on September 17, 2012 at 6:33pm Jack I could not agree with you more. I smiled at the last line of you raised in the 50's, I was born in 56. I am logical but I think I was born with a mind that thinks about mental and social issues so I guess that is why I went into a field in life that dealt with both. :)
My best advice would be to listen to your transplant doctor (in my case, transplant pulmonologist), take copious notes in a notebook that you can keep and add to, always ask if you don't know, attend your transplant centers support group/education classes, and always report anything you expect is awry (or if you feel sick or out of the ordinary).
I know this seems like a long list, but it's all basically the same. It comes down to knowledge on the process and precautions, and always report back.
Oh... and of course, through places like TXFriends and TXBuddies, ask - read - learn.
Rita, for a man raised in the 50's, it comes down to knowledge and facts, and not feelings. This is one reason why our list differs, methinks.
Comment by Rita on September 17, 2012 at 10:13am If someone asked you what was the one thing they could do to help you though the pre/post transplant process what would you say.
I would say one of the hardest things I have found is to not only share my difficulties but the hardest thing is to to deal with the response of the listener because not only do I have to deal with my feelings about it all but then once i put how i feel out there, I now have to deal with their feelings and responses. The best answer anyone can give me is I love you or a hug. What about you, what would be the best thing for you?

Comment by Hostess Risé on October 29, 2011 at 7:17pm Hi Rodger,
Thank you for introducing yourself here. Sorry to hear you have been through so much. Sounds like you have a wonderful attitude which really helps get us through. Consider where you have been when you think about anything that bothers you. It helps to put all thoughts into perspective. Take care of yourself, Rise'
Comment by nynjnc on October 29, 2011 at 2:41pm Hello all!! My name is Roger and I'm t a kidney tx recipient (patient sounds so helpless) and I just joined Transplant Buddies. I've had my kidney since February 2007. I'm doing well now, but have had several complications. Most recently, about a year ago, an eight month battle to beat back a smoldering rejection. The good news, after five biopsies, three rounds of steroid infusions and finally a set of IVIG treatments, the rejection seems to be stopped. I’m feeling better than I can remember. The bad news is tht I'm back on prednisone for duration.
