Permalink Reply by John Dawson on September 12, 2012 at 10:23am The volume of junk calls has soared. My way of dealing with it is I no longer answer the phone unless the caller is known to me from the caller ID. This is announced by my phone. If it's a legitimate call (and there are very few) they can leave a message. Amazing how persistent some of these scam callers can be, with their automated dialing systems. I have some that call several times a day, 7 days a week, and have been doing it for many months.
Permalink Reply by Rita on September 12, 2012 at 3:27pm Thanks I have tried that, however then I run in to the problem that it say priv. caller, and sometimes it a doctor calling from not his office number or family members have no id and restric. numbers. So I always answer the phone if I am home or sometimes I let it go to voice mail.
Permalink Reply by John Dawson on September 12, 2012 at 3:36pm We each have to find our own way to deal with it. In my experience, a legitimate caller will leave a message. If I'm around, and hear a legitimate message being left, I'll pick up and answer.
My approach is imperfect, because with autodialers, they can just keep calling (and they do)
Permalink Reply by Reginald Tom Wickett on September 12, 2012 at 11:57pm All you have to do is when you get these stupid calls is to just lay the phone down & when you hear the beep then you are disconected, when you do this, it ties up thier lines.
Permalink Reply by John Dawson on September 13, 2012 at 6:14am I have tried that, did not discourage them, but I'll try it again.

Permalink Reply by livecam on September 14, 2012 at 9:39pm My reply is dependant on my mood. If there is a large gap between answering and the other party speaking it's usually a telemarketer. I'll just hang up. Other times I'll tell them to never call this number again, then hang up. If they call our house they're wasting their time because we're never interested.
