I was told by my tx to make sure the H1n1 was NOT the live virus shot if you have had a transplant. Plus, to not be around anyone who has gotten one for a few days. Has anyone else heard of this as well? I do get my flu shot ever year but I have to make sure it is not the live one.
Hi First Congrads on your transplant and glad to hear you a feeling good. I have gotten the shot every year since my transplant. Last year there was a big thing on the new and the debate about it. My transplant team gave me the shot last year with a number to call if I had problems and an id # of my particular shot. This year they gave me the shot with no card with the id # of the shot on it. If you have ever gotten the flu in your life where you got it bad I think that makes one get the shot when they offer it. I personally have never had a problem with the flu shot, although one should not get it if they know they are ill ( cold, etc), however before they give you the shot they ask if you have a cold. The only thing that has happened to me is a bit of a sore arm where the shot was given. No big deal with that. My advice is to get the shot but ask your transplant team or you doctor. Wishing you the best. Rita
