A suggestion for our nurse friends:  perhaps retraining for a move into physiotherapy would be possible.  That is a much needed service, especially for TX patients, and having someone who has personally been through it would be of great value to those who are just awakening to their new lives.  Whatever you do, just remember how great it is to be doing anything! :)

Wow Thought about the work issue ? I can remember How weak I was 15 years ago after my heart txp. Could not even walk up 2 or 3 small steps. That was April  1998 and by October 1 1998 I was back to work Full time. I even never took the elevator up to the 4th floor where my office was ! Steps ! Came a long long way in just a few months. Now I am  retired for 6 years and enjoy every day even more ! Fishing and running my  fishing Charter Boat out on Lake Erie !

I am also a nurse, an ARNP I received my double lung transplant 10 months ago, I want to go back to work but because I am so immunosupressed I don't want to take the chance in a hospital , I was thinking about working in low risk area, as a nurse u have plenty choices.

this is exactly why I joined this group. I wanted to know what would be possible if I was transplanted. right now walking again would be a huge deal. currently, I can walk very short distances if I go very slowly. I used to go on long backpacking treaks and canoe trips. I was up to almost 30 miles a day on my bike before this started. It would mean so much if I could regain that freedom to explore the outdoors again. What really got me motivated to consider transplantation was the thought of working as a nurse again, perhaps on a transplant unit, helping others get through it and setting an example.

Today marks 17 months since the first full day of my rebirth!  I celebrated it by walking in my 4th Christmas parade of the month along with members of our organ and tissue donation group and our Green Ribbon float.  Some members ride and hold signs indicating their transplant status; others hand out Lifesaver candies taped to business cards promoting the BeADonor.ca online registration site. Its a great way to get the message out on a very personal level. On the route today, I met a true hero, a living donor!  She made my day. :)
