Itching

Has anyone else experienced any problems with itching before or after transplant? I received my kidney transplant a year and a half ago, but this started about 4 years ago after I recovered from a bad bout with the CMV virus. I had a kidney from my mom since I was a year and a half old, so taking drugs was nothing new for me, but I never had any problems with itching. However, at this time I was switched from Imuran to Cellcept/Myfortic.

The docs thought it was caused by a build up of toxins when I started going through kidney failure, but even now, I am still experiencing it. My liver numbers are slightly elevated, but they don't think that is the problem because they are not that high.

I am currently taking Myfortic, Prograf, Prednisone, Nadolol, Nifedipine, Valcyte, and birth control. I also take vitamins and fish oil.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any similar situation and figured out any solution? Also, ever since this started I've had problems with hair loss and eye allergies. It all seemed to start at the same time. All I know is that the doctors can't seem to help and I am going crazy!!!

Hi, Being the doctors dont seem to think it is from the meds, I would try two things, keep a log of what you are eating maybe it that and after showering each day put body oil or cream on. I found when it is winter, between the cold outside, the heat inside I sometimes get itchy. However if I make sure I put body oil on after showering the itching does not happen. Wishing you the best.
